The Niger State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi -Arid Landscape(ACReSAL) project has participated in the stakeholders’ engagement with other state Stakeholders of other states, for the development of strategic catchment management plans for Eight (8) critical catchments: “Malenda, Kaduna – mariga, Gurara-Gbako (Abuja), Oshin-Oyi,Sarkin-powa-Kaduna, Okwa-Mada, Lokoja-Niger, as well as Aloma-Ebonyi.”
The engagement aims to bring together key stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and other relevant parties, to discuss and develop a comprehensive management plan for each catchment area. The plan focused on sustainable land and water management, climate resilience, and community-driven development.
Niger ACReSAL participants were led by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, together with the Permanent Secretaries of Agriculture and Water Resources, who serve as the Chairman and Co-Chairmen of the ACReSAL Technical Committee in the state. They were joined by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, and the State Project Coordinator, Mal. Raji Shehu Adam.
The development of strategic catchment management plans aligns with ACReSAL’s broader goals of enhancing community resilience, improving livelihoods, and promoting sustainable natural resource management. The engagement was held between 4th to 23rd August 2025 at Aga Woods Hotel, Ilorin, Kwara State, and Agedrive Hotel, Lokoja, Kogi State.
