The Niger ACReSAL has successfully trained 100 youth and 100 women on the establishment and maintenance of nursery plants, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and economic empowerment across the state.

The training programme, held in two selected places in the State, focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge and hands-on skills required to establish and manage viable nursery enterprises. Participants were carefully selected to ensure inclusive representation of young people and women, who remain critical stakeholders in sustainable land management and green economic initiatives.
In the intensive training sessions, facilitators guided beneficiaries through key aspects of nursery development. Participants were also introduced to climate-smart agricultural practices aimed at improving plant survival rates and enhancing environmental restoration efforts.

To ensure sustainability and practical application of the knowledge gained, each beneficiary received a starter pack containing essential nursery materials. Distributing the starter packs to the beneficiaries, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Abubakar Sadeeq Musa, maintained that the distribution of starter kits is expected to accelerate the immediate establishment of functional nurseries by the trainees, enabling them to begin operations without delay. He then called on them to use the advantage given to them.

Speaking at the event, the Project Coordinator, Mal. Raji Shehu Adam, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, which seeks to combat land degradation, promote afforestation, and strengthen livelihoods in vulnerable communities.
Mal. Raji said the programme is part of a broader strategy to reduce unemployment, improve household income, and encourage community participation in environmental conservation. By targeting youth and women, Niger ACReSAL aims to foster inclusive growth while addressing ecological challenges such as desertification and deforestation.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that the training has not only provided them with technical skills but also opened new pathways for entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

The project underscores the commitment of Niger ACReSAL to building resilient communities capable of adapting to climate change impacts. Through capacity building, resource support, and sustained engagement, the initiative is expected to contribute significantly to reforestation efforts and sustainable land management practices across Niger State.
With the successful training of 200 beneficiaries and the distribution of starter packs, Niger ACReSAL continues to demonstrate its dedication to empowering local communities while advancing environmental restoration and climate resilience goals.
